The great Thanksgiving Bake-off!
I think it was 1985... a transition year. We'd sold the bakery and were training a new crew to replace us. We baked about 3,000 pies in approximately 24 hours. All told, about 40 folks helped get the pies out the door and on the road.

Carter and a helper loading a rack of black bottom pie in the annual Thanksgiving bake-off.

Elsa, one of our hired bakers.

Hired help to the rescue! Barton is in the background hamming it up.

Mickey getting giddy.

Clara and Marylee wrapping it up.

Carter, loading pies that will go into the walk-in freezer behind him.

A local high-school student, Baker Barton. He was just 16 (or there abouts), started as a dishwasher and graduated to baker!
Rug-rats
Okay, so they are all adults now and would definitely not want anyone to know them by the nicknames we gave them on the farm, but where's the fun in that? There were a lot of kids... I don't have pictures of all them. Send me more!

Outside the couple's dorm on a beautiful summer day.

More kids!

Matt on the loading dock (the hoop is waaaay up there!)

Jeff and Matt enjoy a little "pick up" game

Apple boxes made handy cribs for our bakery babies. We stuffed Matt full of sliced apple chunks... he seemed to like them!

Pam's babies: Joel and Leah.

Karate kids!

Working in the 'yard'. Sharon is giving little Julia an extra tight squeeze while Lydia supervises her dad.

Bakers by the (almost) dozen!

What a crew! Liz, Carol, Barbie, Marie, Sharon, Birdie, Dona, Kit, Alice

Almost a dozen bakers (including the apprentice Wanda is holding!)

Hamming it up in front of the ovens.

A student from Colorado State University (Ft. Collins) hired to help during the summer. I remember stories about a moose getting friendly with her while she was sitting on a rock in the wilds of Alaska...
